Projects
PLUNGE
Plunge was formed in the early 00’s and consists of Andreas W Andersson, Mattias Hjorth (bass) and Peter Nilsson (drums). The group works with collectively improvised, acoustic music, and their approach is based on interplay, presence, spontaneity and a far-reaching sense of form.
Plunge has toured in Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the UK and has released four albums, two of them in collaboration with renowned Swedish pianist Bobo Stenson.
The rewarding collaboration between the trio and Stenson has so far resulted in numerous concerts and tours of Sweden, several national and European radio broadcasts and two albums, ”Plunge With Bobo Stenson” (2005) and ”Origo” (2009).
TO BECOME
This project, as well as the eponymous album, took off from poems by English poets Adrian Plass & Ian Adams that were set to music by Andreas W Andersson.
The contemplative, sparse and low key drama of the poems is carried by lyrical, dynamic, melodic and emotionally charged music that is characterised by highly responsive interplay.
To Become features an ensemble cast of creative voices in their own right: Anna Weister Andersson (voice), Almaz Yebio (voice), Maggi Olin (piano), Mattias Hjorth (bass), Kristoffer Rostedt (drums).
EIKON
EIKON is an exploration of the cutting edges of composition & improvisation, of liturgy & concert, and of playfulness and stringency. Much of music was originally written for various orders of service & contemplation at the retreat- & resource centre Scargill House (N Yorkshire, UK) where Andreas lived and worked as chaplain 2014 – 2017.
The duo (with pianist Ola Hedén) has released one album and regularly performs the music live.
SOLO SAXOPHONE
Andreas has performed solo concerts in various settings since the late 00’s, many times as integral & organic parts of other events e.g. lectures, exhibitions or even acts of worship.
The concerts and the albums leans towards the austere, minimalistic and contemplative.
