Bio
With a sound characterised by restrained & focussed power, as well as a strong sense of melody and subtle melancholy, Andreas W Andersson has been a low key but steady presence on the Swedish & European jazz & improv scene since the early 00:s.
He is a founding member of the internationally acclaimed improv trio Plunge with whom he’s recorded four albums and toured in Sweden, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Azerbaijan. Other active projects include the sextet ’To become’, the duo EIKON as well as his regular solo saxophone performances.
Other collaborations, studio sessions and work as a sideman, has brought Andreas into the orbit of jazz musicians such as Bobo Stenson, Tomas Jäderlund, Cennet Jönsson, Marilyn Mazur and Sten Sandell, as well as Swedish gospel, r & b and pop artists such as Per-Erik Hallin, Samuel Ljungblahd, Ulf Lundell and Per Gessle, and classical virtuosos such as organist Markus Wargh and guitarist Stefan Östersjö. Andreas has composed music for theatre, documentary films, as well as writing for the various projects he leads or co-leads. He has taught, tutored and held workshops in seats of higher education in Sweden (Malmö Academy of music) as well as Estonia (Estonian Academy of Music & Theatre, Tallinn) and the UK (Guildhall school of music and Drama, London)
